Guinness Records in the Archery World

Have you ever wondered what the best archery Guinness records are?

Learning archery is one thing, but becoming extremely skilled and precise with the bow and arrow is an entirely different thing. I feel that I have learned enough about archery to consider myself an intermediate level archer, but when I see some of the records that are held worldwide, I can’t help but think about how incredible they are.

This is always a reminder of how many incredibly talented people we have in archery. I decided to dedicate this post to some of the best Guinness records and special records in the world of archery.

Guinness Archery Records

Farthest archery target hit

A Paralympic athlete did the farthest archery target hit in the world. Keep in mind that a completely able-bodied person held this record, but American archer Matt Stutzman was able to pull this shot by using his feet. The shot was 283.47 meters in length and this record was set on December 9, 2015.

Most archery world cup wins in compound event

This is not a huge record, but it continues to be for Sergio Pagni, who has won two world cup events on compound. One in 2009 and the other consecutively in 2010. One would think that there would be more wins from a single archer, but apparently, that is not the case.

Most balloons burst in one shot

This took place on the Jimmy Kimmel show live on TV. Archer Randy Oitker set this record with a total of seven balloon bursts in a single shot. He had three attempts and he got six balloons on his first two attempts, but managed to get seven on the third try. You know what they say – third time’s a charm.

Fastest time to shoot 10 arrows

This record requires a lot of skill. The process of reaching for your arrow, setting it up on your bow with proper form, aiming, and getting ready for the shot is quite complex. This process is obviously not a problem for Hamish Murray, who successfully shot 10 arrows into a target 18 meter away in 1 minute 0.5 seconds. The target was 40 cm and the record was set in the UK on September 2015.

Most lightbulbs hit 3 minutes by two archers

The record of light bulbs it in 3 minutes was set by Marco Vitale and Oscar De Pellegrin with a total of 11 light bulbs hit in 3 minutes. I was looking for the record for singles, but I was unable to find it, if anyone has it, please share it on the comments.

There are other Guiness records out there, but I wanted to mention the ones that seem most interesting and worth talking about.

Final Thoughts

The best thing about world records is breaking them is possible for anyone who is up to the challenge. I don’t hold any records myself, but I might be attempting one someday. It’s quite fun to test yourself and see if you have what it takes to break a record.
